7 tips to avoid snacking

Snacking simply means eating between main meals. The urge to eat between meals is different for everyone: stress, fatigue, a rumbling tummy, a sweet tooth...

To avoid gaining weight when you eat between meals, here are a few tips:

.

1. DRINKING WATER

To avoid the urge to eat, drink water regularly throughout the day. It's a technique that will help you reduce snacking cravings. You can add lemon or tea, but avoid sugar!

.

2. BRUSHING YOUR TEETH

Brushing our teeth psychologically means we've finished eating. And that really helps to stop cravings. Eating after brushing your teeth isn't very appetizing or pleasant! Try this tip, it might just stop you snacking!

.

3. CHEWING GUM

If you can't resist the urge to snack in the middle of the day, try chewing gum. It's a great way to curb your snacking cravings. Use sugar-free chewing gum to protect your teeth.

.

4. EAT AT FIXED TIMES

The good thing about eating at set times is that when you get close to mealtime and start to feel hungry, you'll find it easier to resist the urge to nibble by holding off until the actual meal. On the other hand, if you eat at non-fixed times, you'll be more tempted to nibble since your meal isn't scheduled at a precise time!

.

5. ENCOURAGE SNACKING, NOT NIBBLING

If you're watching your weight but have a weakness for daytime snacking, replace your cookies with fruit. The main fruits that will curb your appetite are bananas, pineapples and apples. Enjoying fruit will make you feel less deprived!

Eat a balanced, healthy diet: fiber, protein and healthy fats will help you feel full. If you're hungry, go for vegetables too! Eating as much as you like of carrots, for example, won't make you put on weight.

You can also opt for almonds, cashews and all foods containing fats.

.

6. TIME TO GO SHOPPING

When you go shopping to combat snacking, do it on a full stomach! American researchers have shown that shopping on an empty stomach increases the desire to buy fatty and sugary foods. What's more, only put products on your pre-prepared shopping list into the cart !
